We got the result we wanted on Tuesday night and it was a great team display.
What I liked was the way the team was forever organising each other, encouraging their team-mate and moving people into place.
The players were so organised and switched on to what was happening and that was positive for us to see.
There was a great energy in the lads and that can be difficult after coming off the back of a defeat.
When a result doesn’t go your way, like it didn’t for us on Saturday against Crewe, it can deflate you a little and sap a bit more energy. So to see the way the lads applied themselves and the energy they had, I thought it was superb. We were playing against a side that is well known for their passing and like to keep the ball moving. They have good players but I can’t remember them cutting us wide open.
We made a great start to the second half and the important thing is, with every half of football, you try and start the same. You have to earn the right that half to do what you want to do.
I am a firm believer that if you start at a high tempo and on the front foot pressing, your game plan can be whatever it wants after that. If you don’t start right, your game can’t change from one way to being high tempo. You have to start that way.
People might say it wasn’t a great footballing performance but it was a good disciplined and tactical performance.
We got a clean sheet, added three points and moved up two places to 12th.
The lads have earned themselves a few days off but the management staff will be out this weekend scouting the opposition. We play Rotherham next weekend, so I will be
checking them out.
