Obviously Saturday was a disappointing result but as a team we must keep taking the positives.

We dominated the game on Saturday, and the stats back that up, but we just lacked sharpness in front of goal.

We conceded from a set-piece and then got caught on the break while we were looking for an equaliser.

We have 18 games and lots of points to play for and it would be different if we were playing poorly every week. But I believe we are so close to getting that result that we need.

Everyone knows we have got five or six new faces who have got to bed themselves in with the rest of us.

This is our squad going forward now and we really have to integrate them in and hopefully they can add to what we’ve got.

The new lads have settled in really well. They are all good lads who have bought into the work ethic that we’re about here and they’re all talented players. Hopefully in the next few games we can start really seeing what they can do on the pitch.

We pride ourselves on having a good team spirit at Charlton. There may have been a change in personnel but it’s key that we keep that going.

Some of them don’t speak English yet but they have all had to get up and do their initiation song whether it’s been in French or Polish. They had to do it and buy into the team spirit here, and credit to them they’ve done that straight away.

Our form in the FA Cup this year has been one of those positives I mentioned earlier.

Saturday’s trip to Sheffield Wednesday is a chance of getting to the quarter-finals of the competition and that sort of opportunity doesn’t come around very often.

We’ve got the carrot of playing a top side and being one game away from Wembley so it’s a huge game for the club.

I fall into the generation that dreamed of playing in an FA Cup final. I went to finals at the old Wembley when I was an Arsenal fan as a kid and I would sit there hoping that one day I would play in one myself.

I’m not so sure young boys do anymore. We’re two games away from that or a quarter-final against a top side so we can feel the romance of the cup.
