Peter Taylor hopes to find out if he’s wanted as the long-term Gillingham manager as soon as possible.
Gillingham’s place in League 1 for next season was secured at the weekend. And now, with one game of the campaign remaining, Taylor is keen to know where his future belongs.
Taylor, speaking after Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Preston, said: “We did say we (the chairman and I) weren’t going to discuss anything until we are safe. We are safe now and I am sure he (Paul Scally) is coming over next week as well, which will be good.
“What will be will be. There is nothing you can do. If it means the chairman has other things on his mind then you just have to accept that and you get on with it.
“I am just really pleased we are still in the division because there were one or two times where I thought it might be close. We are over the moon with what has happened.”
Taylor took over from Martin Allen in October, with the club boasting just two wins from 11.
“It was never going to be easy because I took over a group of players who were a little low on confidence,” he said.
“We were playing in a strong division against strong football clubs, like Preston North End, who never dreamt they would be in League 1 years ago.
“We were always going to have a big test and I am sure every player has learnt from it, and I am sure we can be better next season."
