SEVENOAKS climbed to the top of the Men’s National South Division after a double success at the weekend.
Oaks started the weekend in second and on Saturday won a tricky tie against Indian Gymkhana who were sitting just one place below them.
India were two goals ahead inside 18 minutes but Pete Turner pulled one back before the break and levelled the scores on 43 minutes. James Davies-Yandle scored the winner.
Sevenoaks capitalised on a defeat for the leaders University of Kent with a 5-1 win over Bromley & Beckenham to take them top.
Goals for Oaks came from George Torry (2), Nick Miller, Ben Sykes and Craig Ross. Bromley’s scorer was Nick Bluett.
Bromley had lost 2-1 at home to Oxted the day before. The visitors scored early, Dan Holmes levelled, but a second half strike by Johannes Kloess took the win for the away side.
Holcombe made up for a disappointing draw on Saturday with a win on Sunday as they returned to league action.
The double header marked the return of National South competition for the men’s side but they started back with a stutter at home to the division’s basement side.
Teddington were sitting rock bottom and without a point but managed to hold Holcombe to a 1-1 draw.
Paul Rudd got the only Holcombe goal and he was on target the following day as the side returned to winning ways against Firebrands.
Holcombe beat the Bristol-based side 4-3, thanks largely to a hat-trick from Denzil Dolley.
Maidstone Ladies won the local derby against Sevenoaks 2-1 in the Women’s National South Division.
Lauren Penny scored a goal in each half for hosts Maidstone in the mid-table battle. Katy Hornsby pulled one back for Oaks but Maidstone kept their nerve to take the points.
