With the moult of the shore crabs now in full swing the fish are responding by moving inshore for the seasonal feast.
Rays, smoothhound, bass and eels just cannot resist a crab for dinner!
If you fancy a go at these fishes it is possible to collect enough bait for a session by picking a shallow venue with broken rocks to find the crab. Take a good pair of gloves as the rocks you lift will cut your fingers with ease!
Remember to return all rocks as they were and leave the shoreline as you found it.
Your reward might just be a super ‘hound’ like this one caught by Ben Morris on that fabled bait - good luck!
There is a smoothhound fest at the moment to anglers fishing the North Kent coast, fish well into double figures are being caught on most tides.
Dover angler Martin Humpries landed his best ever ‘hound’ on his latest trip.
Down at the Princess parade, the thornback rays were thick on the ground with the Hythe club members landing 33 in their latest club match.
Top rod was Gavin Smith with Dorian Partridge second.
The Les Snooks memorial match on the canal at Hythe was won by Andy Camber with bream and roach.
*The Dover Angling Club are in talks with the harbour board and there just may be some hope for angling on the Admiralty pier in the future, fingers crossed that there is a positive outcome.
