Dartford 0 Dover Athletic 3

21:30, 04 March 2014

Dover Athletic knocked Dartford out of the Kent Senior Cup at a sparsely-populated Princes Park on Tuesday night.

Both clubs fielded teams packed with fringe players, although there was plenty of experience in the Whites side and that gave them an edge.

Chris Kinnear's side will now host Bromley in the last-four, with Ebbsfleet awaiting the winners in the final at Priestfield on Monday, May 5.

Both sides have much bigger fish to fry this season - Dartford battling to stay in Skrill Premier and Dover trying to get there - so it was no surprise that they made a combined 19 changes from their respective league games on Saturday.

Nathan Collier was the one survivor from Dartford's XI at Southport, while of the Dover side, only Craig Stone and Liam Bellamy had started against Gosport three days earlier.

The visitors should have been ahead inside the first few minutes. Elliott Charles headed wastefully wide when Moses Ademola's right-wing cross found him unmarked in the six-yard box.

At the other end, a George Monger corner was cleared out to Lee Noble, whose powerful volley was blocked on its way to goal.

Monger then had a go himself, from all of 30 yards, but Lee Hook made a straightforward save.

With 24 minutes played, Dover took the lead. Andre Blackman's run down the left looked to have taken him down a cul-de-sac but the former Celtic player managed to squeeze a shot between goalkeeper Tom Wellham and his near post.

Femi Akinwande led a rapid Darts break moments later and set the ball for Noble but his first-time shot skewed off the outside of his boot and flew wide.

And the Whites doubled their lead eight minutes before the interval, Ademola sweeping in a low cross from the right.

Six minutes after the restart, it was 3-0. Ademola's high cross had Wellham back-pedalling and although the keeper got both hands to the ball, he lost his grip and dropped it over the line for an own goal.

Charles crunched a shot wide as Dover looked to capitalise on their momentum with a fourth goal.

For Dartford, Collier had his head in his hands after planting a free header wide from Noble's left-wing corner. And although Akinwande's pace carried him clear of the Whites defence, he showed a lack of composure by lashing the ball high over the crossbar.

Ricky Modeste, having played most of the game on Dover's right wing, switched to the left and almost got himself on the scoresheet when he headed a deep Stone cross wide of the far post.

Darts substitute Keiran Scantlebury tricked his way into a good position on the edge of the box but his shot flew onto the near-empty terracing.

Kenny Clark should have pulled a goal back for the hosts late on but his limp header, which rather summed up the occasion, dropped into the side netting.
