TALENTED teenager Andrew Pickett, of Dartford Harriers, won the Wilmington 10k in confident style. The 19-year-old won his first major road race when he took the Sittingbourne 10-mile event earlier this month.

Pickett was a minute clear of the field at Sittingbourne but had to work harder for a 21 second margin over Essex veteran, Tony Seakins (Colchester AC),at Wilmington. Lee McMeekin, of Medway and Maidstone, was a close third ahead of unattached athletes Paul Barlow and Richard MacNamee.

Jon Holmans of Invicta was another young athlete to make an impression in this race. He finished sixth ahead of Dartford Road Runner, Steve Adams. Stuart Rackstraw (Istead and Ifield) was the first over-50 veteran with a respectable 37min 39sec in 17th overall.

Athletes from the London boroughs dominated the women's race with victory going to Meredith Pannett of Dulwich Runners. Alyson Parlett (Bexley Borough) was first veteran as the first two dipped under the 40 minute barrier. Debbie Jackson (Greenwich Triathletes) completed a clean sweep of the podium positions for the Londoners. Biggest cheer of the day was reserved for British Modern Pentathlon squad member Natalie King, who finished fourth in 43min 30sec.

She is the daughter of race sponsor W J King who runs the Vauxhall franchise in the area.

Natalie finished just one second ahead of namesake Jacqueline King (New Eltham) with Paula Stockton of Maidstone Harriers rounding off the top six.
