GILLINGHAM boss Ronnie Jepson has strengthened his backroom staff by promoting Bobby Paterson to first team coach.
Jepson has handed the Scot his first opportunity in the senior game, having spent last season and previous employment working with the youth team.
Paterson never played professionally but he doesn’t see that being a problem.
He said: "I’ve managed to gain my qualifications and I don’t feel that not being a pro has effected me.
"I've tried hard to be a student of the game and attend all the different courses."
Paterson will work alongside current assistant Mick Docherty and Jepson was pleased to be able to add an extra dimension to his team.
Jepson said: "He took a lot on board last year and he knows the way I want to go, my thoughts on the game and on players."
