Homeless people supported by a community charity have been found accommodation during the coronavirus crisis.
All rough sleepers being supported by Homeless Care in Maidstone have now got a roof over their head thanks to Maidstone Borough Council (MBC).
Local supermarkets, churches, school, businesses and individuals are continuing to support the work of the charity with donations of money or food, despite increased pressure on finances amid the economic uncertainty.
Maidstone Day Centre in Knightrider Street, which offers services to help the homeless in the town, has temporarily closed because of government guidelines on social distancing, but staff are working remotely to contact and reassure the most vulnerable clients.
Angela Clay, company secretary at Homeless Care, said: "The good news for us is that all of our rough sleepers have now been offered accommodation by Maidstone Borough Council. Our food bank, Food for Thought, is continuing to provide for these and other vulnerable people who would otherwise go hungry.
"We are working closely with MBC outreach team, Porchlight, the Salvation Army and other local agencies, to maintain a service to the most disadvantaged people in our community.
"A big thank you to all who are continuing to help Homeless Care with donations of money or food during the coronavirus crisis.
"We are especially grateful as we understand the extra demands on everyone's generosity at this time when so many are anxious about their own financial situation."
Food for Thought volunteers are coordinating deliveries of food, toiletries and household items for those in need. But in spite of all the donations collected during their Christmas campaign, run with the support of the Kent Messenger, stocks are running low and the charity is in urgent need of more donations.
Homeless Care was founded more than 30 years ago to support homeless and vulnerable men and women in Maidstone. As well as running the day centre for rough sleepers and the food bank, it also manages Goodsell House, a supported accommodation property for nine men.
