Appeal after bike theft in Tonbridge
17:01, 22 October 2013
Kent Police is appealing for information after a mountain bike was stolen in Tonbridge.
The Cube Attention hardtail bike, worth around £679, was locked up but taken from Medway Wharf Road between 5pm on October 18 and 6.30pm on October 19.
It is black, graphite grey and luminous yellow in colour.
The bike is the sixth high value cycle to have been reported stolen in Tonbridge this month.
Officers are also investigating incidents where two Trek bicycles, worth £1,000 and £800, plus a Specialized bicycle worth £1,000 were reported taken from a communal area in Cannons Wharf.
Kent Police also received a report of a £500 Scott bicycle being taken from outside the railway station in Barden Road. That matter has been passed over to British Transport Police.
Sgt Neil Finch, from the Tonbridge and Malling Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "In all of these cases the victim has told us that their bike was secured either with a chain or lock.
"Unfortunately bicycle crime affects thousands of people in the UK each year, causing great expense and inconvenience. It does not take long for a would-be thief armed with bolt cutters to remove a lock so we urge cyclists in the Tonbridge area to be extra vigilant and safety conscious.
"Always lock your bike up, even if you leave it for only a few moments. Using two locks made from different materials often deters thieves, as they will need to use different methods to cut through them."
