A TEENAGER was sexually assaulted in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The attack happened shortly after the 19-year old Maidstone girl left a nightclub at the Lockmeadow Entertainment Complex in Barker Road, Maidstone.

Detectives say the girl was then subjected to a "serious sexual assault" on the towpath behind the Law Courts which runs along the banks of the River Medway.

The devastated victim has only been able to give the briefest of details of her attacker. He is described as white and aged in his late teens or early twenties with cropped hair.

Police are looking at several lines of enquiry including CCTV footage from the area.

Detectives have released images of a man they believe may be a material witness to the case.

Footage not released to the media show the man punching himself in the face. It is possible he may currently have a visible injury.

Anyone with information about the attack should contact the incident room on 01622 608075 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
