Appeal after sex attack on young woman

POLICE have launched an appeal for witnesses after woman was indecently assaulted as she walked alone along a street.

The victim, who is in her 20s, was in Union Street, Maidstone, when she was approached by a man. He made a comment to her which she ignored and carried on walking.

He then grabbed her from behind, pushed her to the floor and indecently assaulted her. When she screamed, he ran away.

The victim was not injured in the incident, which happened between 3.45am and 4.30am on Saturday.

The man is white man, in his late teens, 5ft, slim, with short fair hair. He had a pale complexion with rosy cheeks and light coloured eyes. He was wearing blue jeans, a dark shirt and no jacket.

After the attack, the woman managed to flag down a white saloon car in Church Street, containing three people, and she was driven home.

Police want to speak to the three people in the car who could be important witnesses.

A police spokeswoman said: "It should be stressed that they are not in any trouble but could help police greatly in the investigation."
