POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a serious assault after a man had his throat slashed in Maidstone town centre. The incident happened as two groups of friends clashed in the High Street on Saturday night.
Police said the 20-year-old victim had his throat slashed with a knife following a disagreement with another man. He was taken to Maidstone Hospital where surgeons used staples to close a four-inch cut across his throat.
The incident happened at about midnight close to a bus stop in Maidstone High Street near the top of Gabriels Hill. Police believe scores of people may have witnessed the incident as they waited for cabs at a taxi rank next to the bus stop.
Det Con Jo Davies said: "We want to hear from anyone who saw this incident take place and from anyone who has other relevant information."
Police have arrested a 17-year-old local man in connection with the incident. He has been bailed pending further inquiries. Anyone with any information can contact Det Con Davies on 01622 608182 or the confidential Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
