A top tourist attraction is appealing for help to find two rare hand-crafted pooches worth £350 after they were stolen.

Winston and Eva, two of 17 limited-edition crafted dogs were stolen from a Leeds Castle shop, sparking the cry for help to retrieve them before Christmas.

It comes after thieves stole stag statues from the site in June.

The dogs are named after house guests and other dogs owned by Olive, Lady Baillie, who owned Leeds Castle.

Each canine was hand-crafted by Canterbury Bears, using gold wall silk woven from the Castle's Yellow Drawing Room by Tassinari & Chatel in Lyon, France.

The pair can be identified by the name tag in their left ears and Castle logo in their right ear and a brass tag on their collars.

Retail manager for Leeds Castle Bob Needham said: “We are urging members of the public to keep a vigilant eye out for Winston and Eva.

"It is incredibly sad that two of our beautiful dogs have been stolen from the charity after such hard work and dedication has gone into creating them by a host of local people.

"We hope they will be returned to us and we’re appealing to the people of Kent’s Christmas spirit to help us find them."

Leeds Castle Security are now dealing with the matter and reviewing CCTV footage of the incident.

If you have any information relating to the whereabouts of the dogs, you can call 01622 765400.
