Warrant against Dr Nadeem Azeez issued after Frances Cappuccini's death dropped

An international arrest warrant against a doctor who was wanted in connection with the death of a 30-year-old teacher has been dropped.
Dr Nadeem Azeez was charged with gross negligence manslaughter following the death of Frances Cappuccini at Tunbridge Wells Hospital in 2012.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) also authorised a charge of corporate manslaughter against Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust and one of gross negligence manslaughter against consultant anaesthetist, Dr Errol Cornish.
The trust, which became the first NHS trust to face corporate manslaughter charges, was accused of failing to check that the doctors were properly qualified.
Mrs Cappuccini, who taught at Offham Primary School, died of a heart attack following a caesarean section caused by high levels of acid in her blood due to a lack of oxygen.
She suffered severe bleeding and never regained consciousness after surgery, which took place after she delivered her second son, Giacomo, in October 2012.
A trial at the Inner London Crown Court heard she suffered a haemorrhage in her uterus and following surgery was passed into the care of anaesthetist Dr Azeez, who was joined later by senior Dr Cornish.
It was alleged the anaesthetists failed to re-intubate her quickly enough and she died after acid built up in her blood due to a lack of oxygen.
But last month the charges against the trust were dismissed by a judge.
Dr Cornish, from South Africa, was also told he had no case to answer.
Pakistani born Azeez was not on trial as he was not in the country. It's understood he remains in Pakistan, where there is no extradition treaty.
An international warrant was issued against him, but this has now been dropped by the CPS.
A spokesman said: “The CPS always keeps cases under continuous review according to the Code for Crown Prosecutors.
"Following the outcome in the trial of Dr Cornish and the Trust, the case against Dr Azeez was reviewed and it was decided that there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction. Therefore, no further action can be taken and the arrest warrant is being withdrawn.”
The family of Mrs Cappuccini are expected to sue the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.
