Disgruntled bus passengers were forced to sit in a queue for 15 minutes when traffic lights got stuck on red in Maidstone this afternoon.

It happened at around 5.30pm in the Lower High Street, causing delays for eight buses.

Drivers were complaining that the traffic signals were faulty, and that the first vehicle in the queue was obeying the red light.

It is not known if the queues were caused by a problem with the signals or if they were programmed to manage heavy congestion on the roundabout at Lockmeadow.

Eventually the driver went through the red light and traffic began to move freely again.
