BUTCHERS have proved you don't have to wait until bonfire night to celebrate a great banger.
JC Rook & Son, which has butchers’ shops across the county, including one in The Mall Chequers, Maidstone, scooped a top award for sausages in the catering sector at a competition held during British Sausage Week.
The Grandad’s pork and sage sausage, using a recipe dating back to 1912, beat off competition from more than 280 rivals.
The company took home the overall champion award from the final of the BPEX Foodservice Pork Sausage of the Year competition at the Butchers Hall in London, as well as first place in the legendary British banger category and third place in the best pub pork sausage category with its Cumberland pork sausage.
Andrew Rook from JC Rook & Son said: “I can’t believe it; to win a national title is just incredible.”
