More than 20 nursing staff at Maidstone Hospital are to be re-deployed as the trust looks at introducing more than £3 million of improvements.
Medical staff on Cornwallis ward were told by letter that their ward is to close.
Trust chiefs want to use the 24-bed ward for new admissions and discharge lounges while transformation work takes place elsewhere across the Hermitage Lane site.
All employees will be offered work elsewhere within the trust. Changes worth more than £3 million are poised to come into force at Maidstone Hospital.
Work has been going on within the Hermitage Lane site to create two new units, at a cost of £2.4 million, which are expected will both open to patients later this month.
On top of that, work worth £1 million will begin on two other areas for patients, which are due to be completed by November.
Work is expected to start on Cornwallis next month. It will become a temporary base for admissions and discharges while new permanent ones are created.
