Family and friends got into the swing of things at a charity golf match in tribute to Will Funnell.

The event at Staplehurst Golf Centre was in aid of Demelza children’s hospice.

Will, 19, of Tenterden Road, Golford, was a passenger in a car that crashed on the A229 at Linton Hill last August.

His parents Pete and Kate, from Coxheath, are planning to launch a Will Funnell Trust to help bereaved families.

The couple recently teamed up with singer Nick John Wilson, who taught their beloved son how to play guitar when he was a child, to record a song in the teen's memory.

The track, called Night Owl, was released on Thursday, May 8 - which would have marked their only child’s 20th birthday.

Mr Funnell, who previously lived in Tenterden Road, Golford, near Cranbrook, said: “Will was a night owl so it felt right to call it that.

"We sat down together and just wrote everything which describes Will, such as his big blue eyes and how he walked the walk, and then everything fell into place.

“Every time I hear the song it breaks me. It’s just Will and he was everything to me. I really think we’ve got something special with this song.”

A copy of the track which bears Will’s signature was sold at an auction after the golf game.
