Residents of a 1960s estate are being rallied to improve the area.

Councillors believe Roseholme in Maidstone, a cluster of 15 three-storey blocks of flats, some maisonettes and some houses, could use some TLC.

Built on the site of the former Rose Nursery and Watercress Farm, the road is home to around 160 households.

However, the area suffers with broken doorways, scruffy communal areas, and in one property, a hole in the roof.

Added to that is an abundance of waste bins and a problem with parking.

On Thursday (November 30) there will be a public meeting at The Grangemoor Hotel in St Michael’s Road to discuss the issues.

The meeting has been called by the Fant and Oakwood Independent ward councillors Paul Harper and Patrick Coates.

Cllr Harper said: “We will be discussing whether to push for a 20mph speed limit on the road and whether a residents’ parking scheme would be a good idea.

“But mostly we are hoping that the tenants might form themselves into a residents’ or community group, so that they can better take up the issues of disrepair with their landlords.

“The best way to improve the area is through collective action.

“A community association could look to improve the communal areas, bin stores and the general environment.

“What’s more, it could help bind the community together and break down isolation.”

The councillors have already helped kick-start a successful community association in another part of the Fant ward, the Oakwood Park Community Group.

The meeting starts at 7.30pm. All welcome.
