RESEARCHERS from the University of Nottingham are hoping to trace people who worked at the old Maidstone Trebor Bassett sweet factory as part of a historical project.

A team have embarked on a project to trace Trebor's roots. The factory in St Peter's Street was originally used as premises for Sharp's Toffees, but was sold to Trebor in 1981. It was bought by Cadbury's Schweppes in 1989 and finally closed in 2000.

The factory was demolished last year to make way for housing. The university team has been given research material by a former Trebor chairman and is currently going through paperwork and photographs to try and piece together the company's past.

Leading researching Inger Boyett said: "We have boxes and boxes of the most wonderful materials - everything you can think of from the board room minutes dating back to 1907.

"As helpful as these materials will be, it would also be fantastic if we could interview people who worked for Trebor."
