A young man was punched and kicked in an unprovoked attack at a boxing match in Maidstone.
The assault happened during a match held at Maidstone Leisure Centre and left the victim with serious head injuries. He is now in a London hospital.
The victim attended the event on Saturday with friends and during a break between bouts they got up from their table to get drinks.
It is believed the victim then spoke briefly to a group on another table and they reacted by repeatedly beating him. The assault is said to have continued as he lay on the floor. It happened at around 10pm.
PC Jamie Webb of Maidstone CID said: ‘This appears to be an entirely unprovoked attack on a young man who was simply enjoying an evening out with friends.
"The victim remains in a London hospital with a serious head injury.
"We are currently reviewing footage from the event including CCTV.
"We are also urging witnesses to contact us, as well as anyone else who attended, who may have important photos or videos on their phones.’
A second man was also assaulted during the incident, who has now been discharged from hospital.
