A broken down lorry is causing "significant congestion" on one of the town's most used roads.
Police are warning drivers to avoid Palace Avenue in Maidstone due to a HGV blocking the route from the bridge system towards Upper Stone Street.
Motorists will face long queues if they find themselves in the road close to Maidstone Magistrates' Court and the bottom of Gabriel's Hill.
A spokesman for the force added: "Motorists can expect significant congestion in the town centre until the vehicle is recovered."
Kent County Council added: "Road currently blocked following a road traffic collision near the junction with Mill Street and Bishops Way.
"Emergency services are in attendance but delays are building quickly on all approaches into Maidstone Centre as a result.
"Please use alternate route where possible and allow extra time for your journey."
Vehicle has now been moved to lane 1 and lane 2 has re-opened near the junction with Mill Street / Bishops Way.
Kent Police tweeted to say: "Drivers are advised to avoid the Palace Avenue area of Maidstone due to a broken down HGV blocking the route from the bridge system towards Upper Stone Street. Motorists can expect significant congestion in the town centre until the vehicle is recovered."
