'Bronze hare' stolen from garden
00:00, 12 August 2005
POLICE are appealing for information after a six feet tall bronze hare was stolen from the grounds of Nettlestead Place in Maidstone.
The theft happened between 6pm and 7.45pm on Saturday, July 30, when offenders entered the grounds and stole the large garden ornament.
It appears they dragged the bronze hare towards the railway embankment at the rear of the premises. It is believed that at least two men would have been needed to move it.
The bronze hare was one of only seven made by an artist and is extremely distinctive. It was not visible from the road.
Anyone with information about this incident and anyone who knows where this garden ornament is now, is asked to contact Maidstone and Malling Police on 01622 608189, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 – this call is free and confidential.
