Bus drivers and passengers were put at risk when vehicles were pelted with snowballs, eggs and stones.

Youngsters, probably off school for the day due to the bad weather, turned fun snowball fights into something far more serious when they turned their attention to vehicles on the road.

The attacks continued throughout the day and grew progressively worse as buses were pelted with ice, then eggs and even stones.

Norman Kemp, the managing director of Nu Venture buses said: “My staff bust a gut on Monday to ensure that we ran nearly all our buses as usual but there were a number of incidents where the buses were attacked with snowballs, eggs and later even stones.

“It’s pathetic behaviour and it’s all so unnecessary.

“Drivers or passengers could be injured if a window shattered. Even if no one was hurt, the bus could still be put out of service.”

All the incidents were reported to the police.

They were:

11.35 Kings Hill, Discovery Drive. Objects containing ice thrown at buses by a large group. Buses serving this road diverted away for rest of day; group persisted most of the day.

20.00 Eggs thrown at 89 bus and driver on Tonbridge Road.

21.00 Objects thrown at buses from roof of King Street multi-storey car park.

21.20 Lumps of ice thrown at buses in Senacre and Shepway area.

21.30 Stones now being thrown at buses from roof of King Street multi-storey car park.

21.34 Buses being snowballed at Lunsford Park.
