Arriva to unveil service changes at Hazlitt Theatre, Maidstone
13:15, 15 February 2017
Bus services are set for a shake-up thanks to new plans from the operator.
Arriva will be hosting a public event at the Hazlitt Theatre to show the changes to its routes, which will come into effect on Sunday, April 2.
Changes include the addition of more services to route 7, which runs between Maidstone, Hadlow, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells.
Between Monday and Saturday, buses will run every 20 minutes, and coupled with route 402, there will be buses every 10 minutes between Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells town centres.
Route 12, between Maidstone and Tenterden via Sutton Valence and Headcorn will run off-peak every 30 minutes, and hourly between Maidstone and Headcorn on weekends.
It’s not just added services to existing routes however, with entirely new services also being created.
Currently, the 85 runs between Maidstone Hospital, the town centre, and Shepway and Senacre Wood, but has now be split into two routes.
The 85 will run between Chequers bus station and Senacre Wood every 10 minutes during the day Monday to Saturday, and every 20 minutes on Sundays, while service 3 will run between the bus station and the hospital every 20 minutes during the day Monday to Saturday, and every half an hour on Sundays.
Due to ongoing issues with services including the 155, which runs between Maidstone and Chatham via Eccles, and the 19, which runs between the County Town and Bearsted, the Kent Messenger asked Arriva whether any services were due to be cancelled or reduced, but Arriva was unable to comment.
The plans can be viewed between 9am and 2pm at the Earl Street Theatre on Saturday. A member of Arriva staff will also be available to answer queries posted on the operator's Facebook page.
