Drivers faced delays after a car burst into flames.

It was spotted on the Maidstone-bound carriageway of the A249 on fire at about 6pm.

There was also thick, black smoke rising from the vehicle's bonnet.

A spokesman from the fire service said: “The road was temporarily closed whilst crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.

“No injuries were reported and the cause is not yet known.”
