Traffic at standstill on A229 Blue Bell Hill between Maidstone and Medway following car fire

A car fire on the A229 Blue Bell Hill is causing delays for motorists this afternoon.
The incident has happened on the northbound carriageway of the key route between the M20 at Maidstone and the Medway towns.
Kent Highways is urging drivers to "approach with caution" and expect delays to their journeys.
"Crews wearing breathing apparatus used compressed air foam to put out the fire," a Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said. "The scene was left in the care of Kent Police and the Highways Agency. There were no reported injuries at this incident."
A spokesman for Kent Police said: "Kent Police was called at around 12.05pm to assist Kent Fire and Rescue Service at the scene of a car fire on the A229 Blue Bell Hill.
"Officers attended and remain at the scene to control the traffic."
It comes less than 24 hours after the Prime Minister plunged Kent into Tier 4 Covid-19 restrictions, with an order for people to refrain from non-essential travel and stay home wherever possible.
