‘Child-friendly’ checkouts are a hit at Morrisons supermarket in Sutton Road, Maidstone

New “children’s checkouts” have been a hit after being introduced at a well-known supermarket.
Morrisons in Sutton Road, Maidstone, now allows younger shoppers to scan and pack items at a special till.
Katie Ford, from Park Wood, popped into the store to get a few items when she came across the interactive activity.
The full-time carer had been babysitting three-year-old Brianna for her friend Karleen Ryan.
“She absolutely loved it,” Katie said. “It was really good because it kept her entertained and occupied.
“It took the pressure off trying to get everything checked out really quick because she doesn't like shopping at the best of times.
“She had a big smile on her face.”
The checkout at the supermarket has been sectioned off from the rest, but customers can still pay for their shopping as usual.
Children can also play with several toys, as well as colouring and activity books.
Brianna, who has just turned three on Friday (April 12), loved it so much that she was gifted a small till from her grandparents.
Katie says the activity would be very beneficial for parents who have children with disabilities.
“My daughter Holly has autism and ADHD,” the mum-of-three explained.
“It depends on what mood she’s in, but I could definitely take her along.
“If you've got kids with a disability and don't like shopping and if they can engage in something like that, I think it'll be better for them as well.
“I just think it's a really good idea.
“More supermarkets should do it because it'll be less stressful for the parents.”
Morrisons also offers a mini trolley for “young shoppers” – which they can push around and fill with items to their heart’s content.
A spokeswoman for the company said: "We can confirm that we are in the process of introducing child-friendly checkouts into our stores.
“We want customers of all ages to enjoy shopping at Morrisons and know our younger shoppers are often keen to help out at the tills so we welcome them to have a go next time they're in our stores."
