Supermarket staff rushed to clear foods from broken fridges on hottest day of the year.

Workers at Maidstone's Marks & Spencer branch were seen scrambling to save the chilled produce this afternoon while temperatures soared above 30C outside.

It's believed coolers at the Week Street store had failed but the freezer section appeared unaffected.

An employee said the team were busy trying to solve the issue.

One shopper said: "The food was disappearing from the shelves right before my eyes as the staff were working flat out to save as much as possible.

"Even though they were under a lot of stress, they were still really helpful and friendly."

A Marks and Spencer spokesman said: “The chiller cabinets at the Week Street store are experiencing a temporary fault. We are doing all we can to rectify the situation and an engineer is currently on site assessing the cause.”
