Former England defender and Maidstone United player Chris Smalling was robbed at gun point during a raid at his home in Rome.
Police in the Italian capital are investigating after three men forced their way into the house this morning and ordered Smalling, 31, to open a safe containing a Rolex, jewellery and around 300 euros in cash.
Smalling, who plays for AS Roma as centre back, is understood to have been sleeping when the intruders broke in at 5am.
His family were also present during the robbery with his wife calling the police.
Smalling played for the Maidstone United youth club before joining the team in 2008. The footballer studied at Chatham Grammar School.
He then spent 10 years at Manchester United and joined As Roma last year. Between 2011 and 2017 he made 31 appearances for England.
