A council has issued a calming message after residents were left scratching their heads as to why their bins hadn’t been emptied.
Maidstone Borough Council received several complaints about the late collections but has issued a statement explanaining why some haven’t had their rubbish taken away.
Waste Company Suez took over all operations in Maidstone from Biffa this week after a new deal was agreed in December.
However, the handover has seen some teething problems with many residents saying their bins have not yet been collected.
A spokesman for the council said: “The waste crews are working hard to learn new routes, vehicles and technology and some collections are taking longer than normal as they become familiar with the changes.
“If your rubbish hasn’t been collected, don’t worry, they are on their way.
“Please leave your bin out and the crews will get to you as soon as possible.
“Thank you for your support whilst we make important changes to your waste and recycling service.”
The deal with Suez UK is said to be worth £152 million and is to last for eight years – equating to £19 million a year.
The company is also taking over routes in Swale and Ashford as the new provider for the Mid-Kent Waste Partnership.
Biffa had run the bin collections for the Mid Kent Waste Partnership for the last 10 years.
Staff members were also transferred to Suez.
