Council tenants to vote on changing landlord
10:32, 20 February 2003
COUNCIL house tenants will vote next month on proposals to switch their homes to a new housing trust after councillors agreed to hold a ballot.
An election timetable will be published by Maidstone Borough Council next week. Tenants of 6,500 homes will have three weeks to make their choice.
When tenants were last asked to make the switch a decade ago 60 percent voted against following a strong anti-campaign.
This time apathy could be the biggest enemy and plans are advanced to ensure as many tenants as possible are encouraged to vote.
A series of roadshows are planned in additional to newsletters from both the council and independent tenants advisors Insights.
