A Maidstone councillor is recovering in hospital after suffering a heart attack.
Cllr Gordon Newton, who represents Downswood Ward, fell ill two weeks ago after what he thought was just a chest infection.
He spent 10 days in Maidstone's Coronary Care Unit and was then transferred to King's College Hospital where he will undergo a triple heart bypass this week.
Cllr Newton said: "They've got me stable and I'm feeling well, you wouldn't think I'd had a heart attack.
"The care I received at the Coronary Care Unit was absolutely fantastic, we ought to be very proud."
Cllr Newton insisted his stonemasonry business, which he runs with his wife, was still open as usual while he recovers.
