A drug dealer who used his bike to go out selling heroin and crack cocaine in Maidstone has been jailed.

Cameron Bennett also used a flat in town as a base to deliver drugs and was arrested after making deals near Broadway.

In February 2019, Kent Police received calls about two men acting suspiciously on bikes in Maidstone town centre.

A flat in the High Street was linked to the men and on February 14, Bennett was seen by officers cycling from the address.

He was spotted attempting to make exchanges with three suspected Class A drug users, behind a shop near Broadway.

Bennett was arrested and the High Street flat was searched, leading to 134 wraps of heroin and crack cocaine being found.

Quantities of cannabis were also recovered.

Bennett, aged 20, formerly of Grove Road, Chatham, was charged with two counts of supplying Class A drugs.

He was also charged with assault after an unrelated incident in Gillingham on May 7, 2019, where a man was struck in the face.

Appearing before Maidstone Crown Court, Bennett pleaded guilty and on Wednesday was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment at a young offenders' institution.

A second suspect linked to the investigation remains on bail, pending a future trial.

Detective Superintendent Shaun White, of the County Line and Gang Team said: "Bennett was operating in a county line supply chain that we believe had direct links to London.

"Using the Maidstone flat as a base, he would deliver heroin and crack by bicycle to some of the most vulnerable people in our communities.

"As this case has shown, dealers should know we have our eyes and ears everywhere and it demonstrates once again how effective our officers continue to be in tackling and detecting those intent on supplying drugs.

"I can assure residents we will continue to ensure a robust response for anyone involved in this type of criminality, but please also remember to let us know straight away if you see anything suspicious. Call 999 if it is a crime in progress, otherwise contact 101."
