Shoppers were filmed in between the sheets today, when The One Show came to town.

Presenter Michael Douglas was asking married couples about their sleeping habits, after Princess Michael of Kent revealed she and her husband slept in separate rooms.

It was shot in Fremlin Walk, on two beds, donated for filming by the British Heart Foundation.

Mr Douglas, also known as the Street Barber, is a regular on the show, usually popping up to give people an unexpected haircut.

He said: “Most people don’t know but one in six married couples sleep in separate beds, whether that is because of snoring, fidgeting, or simply falling out of love.

“What we were most surprised to find out in Maidstone was the amount of women who were driving their partners into seperate rooms by snoring, and also that some had seperate beds in the same room.”

The feature is expected to be aired on BBC1 on Monday.
