The Kent County Show has lived up to all expectations so far... with fantastic sunshine adding to the carnival atmosphere.

Early visitors on day one were forced to beat the queues on the M20 after a serious two-lorry crash left a man in hospital and lanes closed.

But there was a treat for those who made it to the event at the Kent County Showground.

The highlight of the county agricultural calendar, the show attracts thousands every year, with some 80,000 visiting last year.

This year’s celebration of all things Kentish blends the county’s proud agricultural heritage with the latest in farming, produce and entertainment.

Animals are also featured, with competitions deciding the best looking horse and livestock.

An antiques fair boasts more than 50 stalls and vintage vehicles including busses. Perfect for those who want their fix of nostalgia.

This year there is also an outdoor aqua sports centre - ideal for those sweltering in temperatures expected to nudge the high 20s.

Show manager Lucy Hegarty said: "We work all year round for this, we're supported by a team of volunteers.

"We're expecting 80,000 over the three days and we've got between 400 and 500 trade stands.

"There is some quirky stores, we've got sculpturing coming on and dinosaurs on sight.

"Unfortunately there was an accident on the M20 but we're grateful for the way Kent Police and KCC helped to keep our show traffic flowing as much as they could.

"We've sold some tickets internationally that are coming over from Belgium and Germany so we'll welcome them with open arms."

New this year is Dexter the animatronic dinosaur and there's a dino nursery with three prehistoric charges to meet, plus Titan the robot will be meeting crowds again this year.

Also new at this year's event is boosted security, with random bag searches promised.

The three-day show runs until Sunday at the Detling showground between 8am and 6pm.

Tickets are £23 on the gate, with a child ticket costing £7 on the gate.
