Air ambulance called after cyclist hit by car near Parkwood Industrial Estate in Maidstone

An air ambulance was called after a cyclist was hit by a car near an industrial estate.

Emergency services, including police and paramedics, were pictured in Sutton Road, Maidstone, just outside the Parkwood Industrial Estate.

In total five police cars and an ambulance were at the scene and the cyclists injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The air ambulance was later seen taking off from a the field near Gore Court Road in Senacre.

A resident who lives nearby was cycling when he saw the emergency response.

He said: "I was cycling through Senacre and heard something which at first sounded like a lawn mower.

"It looked like someone had been hit by a car."

"Next thing I know a helicopter emerged over the trees. It had landed on Senacre Rec and took off about 11am.

"I carried on and further up the road several police cars, ambulances and an air ambulance 4x4 had blocked off the entrance to Parkwood Industrial Estate.

"A load of people were out watching.

"It looked like someone had been hit by a car as later when the police had gone I cycled past a car with a caved in windshield."

Police spokesman Steve Knight said: "We were called at around 9.55am following a collision involving a car and a man on a bicycle at the junction of Sutton Road and Bircholt Road, Maidstone.

"Officers attended and the man on the bicycle was airlifted to hospital for treatment.

"The junction is currently closed while initial enquiries are carried out."
