Distressed woman in rooftop drama
00:00, 25 June 2004
A BUSY shopping street was brought to a standstill when a woman threatened to throw herself from a rooftop.
Police negotiators were called to Week Street, Maidstone, just after 2.30pm yesterday. The woman, aged about 40, was threatening to throw herself from the roof of the Madhouse clothes store.
Crowds of shoppers were moved aside as the trained mediators tried to talk the woman down. She was eventually escorted down from the roof after about 25 minutes.
She was checked over by ambulance staff before being taken to Maidstone Hospital as a precaution. She was not thought to be injured.
