A COACH driver was injured when his vehicle smashed into a steel barrier on a busy main road.

The driver was trapped for some time before he was freed by the emergency services. The incident happened at about 4pm on Sunday at the junction of Loose Road, Maidstone, and Armstrong Road.

The driver was taken to hospital. His condition is not yet known. There were no passengers on the coach which is owned by New Enterprise.

Traffic congestion built up in both Loose Road and Armstrong Road while police and ambulance crews dealt with the incident.
