You may be held captive by the fascinating work of Kent Police during it's open day this weekend - but you will be free to leave at any time!

Curious families can find out all about the behind-the-scenes action during the force's free event.

Activities, demonstrations and stalls will be available Saturday, June 16, at the Kent Police Training College in Coverdale Avenue, Maidstone, from 10am until 4pm.

What's on:

• Watch police dogs and their handlers in action
• Public order demonstration, complete with petrol bombs
• Meetmarine and motorcycle teams
• See a Taser display from the Staff Safety Training Unit
• The Kent and Essex Police helicopter will be landing during the day, and will include taking part in a staged pursuit
• The Kent Police Serious Collision Unit will be giving advice on road safety with a crashed car and storyboards on show.

Join in:

• Collect evidence at the mocked up crime scene with CSIs (Crime Scene Investigators)
• Test your skills in a driving simulator
• See if you can tell a real gun from a fake one
• Visit our Stay Safe zone for advice on keeping your family, valuables and home safe this summer, including information about cyber bullying and how to manage privacy settings to stay safe online
• Meet local officers and find out how they work with agencies such as the Kent Fire and Rescue Service.

All of the above and more will mean a great day out for the whole family.

Opportunities will also be available to meet officers from across the force who will be there to inform, advise and explain the work they do.

Also present will be the Strode Park Foundation, a charity for people with disabilities, who will be holding a raffle to win a luxury hamper; the Cerebral Palsy Care Centre, who provide special needs and educational support to people of all ages who suffer from a wide range of disabilities; Demelza Hospice, who provide a range of hospice and care services to children, young people and their families; Spadework, an independent training organisation who support adults with learning disabilities; and the Kent Charities Group, a group of diverse, independent charities, based in Kent and committed to improving the quality of life of residents through their individual causes.

Over 700 on-site parking spaces are being made available for visitors, to minimise disruption to local roads. No dogs will be allowed on the site, except guide dogs. Refreshments will be available to purchase.
