Is the idea of getting hair laser treatment a daunting or embarrassing prospect for you? If it is, then you're not alone.

Hundreds of women and men across Kent may very well have walked towards an aesthetic clinic on the high street only to do an about-face and make a dash at the last second.

Contrary to the attractive displays on billboards and fashion magazine covers emblazing models with perfectly-plucked brows, silky legs and bare underarms, men are not the only ones covered in hair.

After all, women are also mammals and keeping them well-shaved and with perfect bikini lines was not part of the evolution deal, which would explain why many may slave in front of the mirror on a daily basis to preserve that illusion.

Not that it's a must as the other side of the feminine debate will vehemently argue, but those wanting to keep their lush, silky skin in check now have new alternatives, none more so than in the form of laser treatment.

But with that technological marvel may come a stigma, irrespective of gender.

“Treatments in the area of concern may feel a little intimidating to begin with especially if you have been struggling with unwanted hair in that area for a long time.

“Exposing this area to a complete stranger is something that is very difficult for some men and women. Even discussing having treatment is difficult enough, never mind having the actual treatment itself.”

One of the most common cases of customers, Kayla explains, are women who suffer with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) - a condition that can lead to excessive and unwanted hair growth to the face and body.

Some common questions and concerns about laser hair removal:

Will the area be red or inflamed straight after?

Immediately following your treatment, the area may appear a bit red and swollen. About three to seven days after the treatment, you will begin to shed hair from the treated area. This may look like a re-growth of hair but you should not wax or pluck it. You can, however, shave if you wish to.

Can makeup be applied straight away?

We advise that you wait at least 24 hours before applying makeup if you’re having laser hair removal to the face. This is to allow your skin to breathe but SPF is advised after every treatment.

How long until I can shave again after the treatment?

We advise to wait at least 72 hours. Just remove the dead hairs on the skin.

Is the treatment safe?

Yes. Laser hair removal effectively destroys the hair itself without harming the surrounding skin. You may be a little red afterwards, but that typically goes away in a matter of hours.
