Roadworks have resulted in long tailbacks around Maidstone and Malling with the M20 parallel westbound slip road between Junction 6 and 5 gridlocked and the roundabouts also snarled up.

Coldharbour Roundabout is blocked on the approaches from both the M20 and the A20 London Road.

In Forstal Road there are westbound queues starting at the Running Horse and Hermitage Lane northbound from the hospital exit also has long queues.

Nu Venture buses said traffic was queuing for up to an hour on Hermitage Lane this morning.

A spokesman said: “Very severe delays on all bus services in and around Maidstone and Malling as a result of traffic queues caused by the emergency roadworks on A20 at Aylesford.”

According to Kent County Council’s highways team, the work is due to finish by 4pm today.

A spokesperson said: “There are significant delays on the surrounding network.”
