A cordon has been put in place at a Maidstone address where crews are investigating a suspected gas leak.
Fire tape has been tied across both entrances to Camden Street, near the town centre prison, as a safety precaution.
Engineers from Southern Gas Networks were called to the home this morning after someone reported a smell of gas in the cellar.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service were asked to attend just before noon.
At 1.30pm, a spokesman for the emergency gas service said: "Our engineers are working to secure the leak and make the gas supply to the property safe. This work is ongoing at present."
It's not yet known if any households have been evacuated. Some neighbours could be seen watching the commotion from their doorways.
