School minibus driver fined for checking phone on M20 near Leeds
13:30, 10 May 2017
A school minibus with children on board was pulled over by police this morning after the driver was seen checking her phone.
Officers spotted the offence as the vehicle was travelling on the coast-bound carriageway of the M20, near junction 8 for Leeds shortly before 9.30am.
The driver was stopped and given a fixed penalty notice, which included a fine of £100 and three penalty points, for not being in proper control of the vehicle.
The penalty for using, as opposed to checking, a mobile phone when driving carries a greater penalty. As of March 1 it is now punishable by way of a £200 fine and six penalty points.
