On Thursday morning, some burnt remains were dumped out the front of the boozer and cordoned off from the public.

Crews were called at around 6.15pm and the blaze was put out by 8pm.

A cordon was put in place at the Pudding Lane junction while work was carried out.

A fire service spokesman said: “Crews wearing breathing apparatus used a high-pressure hose reel jet to put out the fire which had spread from the chimney of the premises to the surrounding hearth.

“A height vehicle platform was deployed to assist with firefighting at roof level while a positive pressure ventilation fan was used to drive smoke and fumes from the property.
