The former drummer with The Jam came to a town called Maidstone at the weekend to give die-hard fans the chance to meet one of their musical heroes and hear first hand tales of some of the group’s iconic moments.

The evening with Rick Buckler, on Friday at the Gallagher Stadium in the County Town proved a sell-out.

It also launched a national tour to promote his autobiography, That’s Entertainment.

Some 150 people saw a 20-minute film about his life and enjoyed a question and answer session, before getting to meet their hero and have memorabilia signed.

He is the first member of The Jam, which had hits in the 1970s and early 80s, to have written his autobiography, which he did with co-author Ian Snowball, from Maidstone.

Mr Snowball, himself a Jam fan, said: “People who were there really wanted to be and were very pleased to be in the room with one of their childhood heroes and hear some of his interesting tales.

“Rick is very approachable and was happy to give autographs and chat to people.”

The book is on its third print run and has been in the bestseller list on Amazon, a month after it was published.

That’s Entertainment is published by Omnibus Books.
