The closure will allow SGN to carry out emergency works on the road, after a gas leak was reported.

It has been shut since Tuesday (February 7) and plans to reopen next week.

Drivers are being asked to use the signed diversion route in place, via Queens Road and the A20 London Road.

A spokesman for SGN said: "Our engineers are carrying out urgent repairs to our gas network along A26 Tonbridge Road.

"We’ve identified the source of the leak and repairs to the affected pipes are ongoing.

"To ensure everyone’s safety while this work is completed, A26 Tonbridge Road has been closed to motorists in both directions near to its junction with Bower Place.

"We estimate the road may be closed until early next week.

"We understand roadworks can be frustrating, but this work is essential to ensuring nearby properties continue to receive a safe and reliable supply of gas."
