LOVE is in the air for a slightly more mature Maidstone couple. George Dyer, 83, and 67-year-old Edna Kingsnorth, tied the knot at the Archbishop's Palace.

The couple met two years ago at Age Concern's Grove Green day centre at Maidstone, after Edna, of Shirley Way, Bearsted, had just moved to the area. Their friendship slowly grew until Edna went on holiday last year and felt compelled to ask George to marry her. She said: "While on holiday I did miss him. I decided to ask him if he'd marry me. I buttered him up and he said yes."

They are the first couple to marry after meeting at Maidstone Age Concern - much to the delight of the staff. Maggie Cooper, the day care manager for Maidstone, said: "It's so sweet. We're delighted for them - it's our first wedding."

Mr Dyer lost his wife Daphne six years ago, and Edna's previous husband, Ronald, died seven years ago.
