A YOUNG girl was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car over the Easter weekend.

The girl, who is believed to be eight years old, was struck by a car in Barton Road, Maidstone, on Saturday.

Police officers and an ambulance crew were called out, and the youngster was taken to Maidstone Hospital.

The accident caused traffic chaos in the surrounding area, and vehicles were brought almost to a standstill while the incident was dealt with.

A spokeswoman for Maidstone and Malling Police said: "The girl had some pretty nasty injuries."
